Deshdrohi mired in controversy(NSI News Source Info) November 8, 2008 - Mumbai: Mumbai police have asked makers of the film Deshdrohi, which depicts the issue of migrants in Mumbai for a separate screening before its release on November 14.Director of the film Jagdish Sharma said that the Mumbai distributor of the film has received a letter from the Mumbai crime branch inquiring about the film whose content is reported to be based on the anti-north Indian campaign unleashed by the Raj Thackeray-led MNS. Sharma said the police wanted to see the film to ascertain if it could lead to any law and order situation. The screening will be held tomorrow, he informed.The film had nothing to do with the recent incidents in Mumbai and elsewhere in Maharashtra, he added. "Our film was stuck with the censors for over four months. We shot the film during Diwali last year. The timing of the release and the prevailing situation is a mere coincidence," he added.The film was refused clearance by the censor board. "They asked us for some cuts which we did not agree," he said, adding that writer-producer-actor Kamal Khan approached the tribunal to get the clearance certificate.Deshdrohi is about a man from Bihar who comes to Mumbai and gets involved in a fight with anti-social elements resulting in the death of the person. The story is about how the protagonist struggles to free himself from the troubles including the clutches of politicians, the director said.He said the film was earlier scheduled to release on November 7 but due to problems with exhibitors, it has been postponed by a week.
